Carpe Demons is a rhythm game where you fight demons by casting spells, drawing the correct shape on a grid. The idea came from imagining a game played on a phone's lock screen.
Drawing the correct shapes on the beat gives a higher chance of critical hits, while casting spells off the beat increases the chance of missing the demon.
There is a demon for every minute, with boss battles on the half hour and the hour. That comes to 1,440 demons over a whole day.
On the programming side, the first step was a lock-screen-style pattern system, which I built with line renderers and tested on my Android phone.
Next came recognizing the required patterns, like squares and triangles.
With some basic art added, we had our first simple prototype.
